New security regulations on powdered substances

Restrictions apply in the following countries: USA, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica.

 

It is forbidden to carry powdered substances(*) exceeding 12oz/350ml/350gr in hand luggage.

 

We recommend that these substances travel in checked baggage, in order to avoid them being removed at the security checkpoint and/or at the boarding gate.

Exceptions (**):

 

  • Prescription medicines
  • Baby food
  • Cremated human remains
  • Powdered substances purchased in Duty Free Shops, provided they are sealed in a STEB (Secure Tamper Evident Bag)
  • Powdered, granulated or compacted, e.g. flour, sugar, ground or granulated coffee, spices, powdered milk powder and cosmetics.

 

(**) May be inspected by the Company.

Prohibited items that may not be carried on an aircraft

Explosives

Ammunition, percussion caps, detonators, fuses, mines, grenades, flares, explosive charges for military use, fireworks, pyrotechnic articles, smoke canisters, smoke-generating cartridges, dynamite, gunpowder and plastic explosives.

Flammable liquids

Petrol, diesel fuel, methanol, paints, varnishes, turpentine, solvents, petroleum, adhesives or alcohol.

Flammable solids and reactive substances

Magnesium, fireworks lighters, celluloid film, sulphur, charcoal, matches or matches; and in general flammable substances either by being self-reactive or by combustion.

Oxidants and organic peroxides

Bleach, body repair kits, fertilisers or chlorates.

Toxic or infectious substances

Disabling devices, rodenticides, poisons, poisons, diagnostic specimens, vaccines, insecticides, herbicides, pesticides, arsenic, infected blood, bacteria or viruses.

Radioactive material

Pharmaceuticals with radioactive isotopes, etc.

Corrosives

Acids, alkalis, mercury-containing devices, electric accumulators, car batteries and battery-operated appliances.

Lithium cells and batteries and electronic cigarettes

Lithium cells and batteries, electronic cigarettes* and other dangerous goods, such as first aid kits, ferro-magnetic material, dry ice, and car batteries.

* Carriage permitted only in the cabin of the aircraft.

Firearms

Weapons in general (pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, toy guns, replica firearms, air guns, flare/signal guns, arrow bows, crossbows, spearguns/fishing guns, slingshots, slingshots). If any weapons are to be carried, a check in agent must be contacted.

Stun devices

Devices specifically designed to stun or immobilise (stun guns and stun batons, laser guns, animal stunners, butcher's guns, mace, stinging sprays, pepper sprays, tear gas, acid sprays, animal repellent sprays).

Weapons or sharp or edged objects

Axes, ice picks, razors, razor blades, box cutters, arrows, darts, harpoons, javelins, swords, sabres, cutting martial arts equipment, scissors, knives and any other sharp objects.

Tools

The transport or shipment of work tools such as crowbars, hammers, drills, saws, blowtorches, radials, staple guns, etc. is only permitted as cargo.

Briefcases and security bags

Briefcases, safes, money bags incorporating lithium batteries or pyrotechnic material. Smart suitcases are only acceptable if batteries are removed and carried separately in the cabin.

Gases and gas cylinders

Compressed, liquefied, refrigerated liquefied or dissolved gases such as propane, butane, acetylene, oxygen, nitrogen, insecticides, compressed air cylinders for diving or lighter refills.

Miscellaneous dangerous articles

Fuel engines, magnetised material, lithium batteries or genetically modified organisms, etc.

Liquid oxygen devices

Liquid oxygen devices and electric shock weapons containing explosives, compressed gases or lithium batteries.

Prohibited articles that may not be carried in the cabin

In addition to items prohibited on board the aircraft:

Bats, golf clubs, truncheons, paddles, skateboards, fishing rods, martial arts equipment, rubber bands, etc.

Explosive and incendiary substances and devices

Substances and devices which may or appear likely to cause serious injury or threaten the safety of aircraft: ammunition, percussion caps, detonators, imitation explosive devices, mines, grenades, pyrotechnics, smoke-generating cartridges, dynamite, gunpowder, plastic explosives.
