In order for them to fly safely, there is a special regulation adapted to their age.
If they have not reached the age of two and do not occupy a seat, they pay between 30 and 10% of the price of the fare of the accompanying adult. If they do occupy a seat, they will be treated as children between 2 and 11 years of age.
If they have not reached the age of two and do not occupy a seat, they pay between 30 and 10% of the fare of the accompanying adult. If they occupy a seat, they will be treated like children between 2 and 11 years old.
When occupying a seat, you must take with you an approved car seat (EU quality seal, ECE R44/03 or ECE R44/04) in which the baby will travel, taking into account the safety regulations.
Please note that if the baby will be two years old before the end of the trip, the ticket must be purchased at the child fare for the entire flight.
*On Iberia flights operated by Lan Airlines, infants travelling in Business class will have the same fare as adults and will travel in an individual seat, applying the aforementioned safety regulations for these cases.
A SSR INFT element must be entered in the booking including the date of birth of the child, with day/month/year and assigned to the passenger carrying the child.
Additional oxygen masks and life jackets are available for use by children not occupying a seat (INFT) as well as floating cots.
With some clarifications:
1- If the passenger already had a previous seat reservation, it will not be overwritten when adding the BSCT. It is important to check the reserved seat.
For GDS reservations:
The agency can remove the previous seat from the reservation before making the request for the cot (SSR) so that the system will automatically reserve the correct one.
If the service has already been requested (SSR), the previously booked seat can be removed and requested as before, with the ST/I transaction (which will continue to work).
If you have previously issued EMDs, you can request a refund:
POS Spain > directly through the website indicating ‘asiento infant’.
Rest of POS > prior to prior authorisation with tactix from Serviagencias through your usual channel.
NDC bookings or other cases where the agency is not autonomous - you can contact our Contact Centre.
2- If the passenger has already checked-in, the seat already assigned and shown on their boarding pass will not be overwritten.
The ticket will be booked, issued, and priced with the corresponding CHD (child) fare.
Due to security reasons imposed by some governments, which require seat reservations for all children who have reached the age of 2, Iberia has generally implemented, across all its fares, the issuance of tickets with a Child fare for all trips in which the child, although starting the trip as an Infant, reaches the age of two before the return trip.
Thus, in the Child (CD) Discounts section of all our fares, the following supplementary note is appearing:
• AN INFANT UNDER TWO YEARS WHO MAY TURN 2 YEARS OF AGE BEFORE THE END OF THE TRIP MUST PAY A CHILD FARE FOR THE ENTIRE JOURNEY.
This decision affects all fares of our company and to/from any origin-destination in the Iberia network.
It is important to take this into account, both in the issuance of tickets with Iberia ticket stock for the entire journey with Iberia, and when the issuance is made with another company's form.
A child (CHLD) who has reached the age of two and has not reached the age of 12 on the date of the flight and is accompanied by a person over 16 years of age. He/she is travelling in a seat.
An SSR CHLD element including the date of birth of the child with day / month / year must be entered in the booking.
A child (CHLD) who has reached the age of two and has not reached the age of 12 on the date of the flight and travels accompanied by a person older than 16 years. Travels occupying a seat.
It will be necessary to enter an SSR CHLD element in the reservation, including the child's date of birth, with day / month / year.
We want to offer infants, children and their families maximum safety and comfort during the flight.
For this reason, an adult may travel with a maximum of one infant (under 2 years of age), one infant and one child under 5 years of age, or with two children under 5 years of age.
When flying with children between the ages of 5 and 12, the policy stipulated for groups of minors applies.
Also, by way of exception, one adult may travel with two infants (under 2 years of age), provided they have a special infant seat with them.
Flight safety regulations require that if an adult passenger wishes to travel with 2 infants, he/she must carry an approved car seat in which one of the infants will travel, and which will be placed in the seat next to that of the adult passenger.
The other baby will travel in the arms of the adult passenger with the additional belt provided by the crew, as has been the case up to now.
The fare applied to the baby occupying the seat will be the same as that of a child between 2 and 11 years of age.
Children with Child (between 2 and 11 years of age) and Infant (under 2 years of age travelling with an adult) discount tickets will have the same free baggage allowance as the adult and, in addition, may bring a folding pushchair/stroller or a car seat.
When you travel with your infant and bring your own pushchair, you have the option of either keeping the pushchair with you until you enter the aircraft or checking it in like the rest of your baggage. If you take it to the door of the plane, you will be able to transport it in the cabin when the space available on the flight allows you to do so. Otherwise, it will be removed by the flight crew, deposited in the hold and delivered at the aircraft door on arrival.
This service is NOT guaranteed throughout the Iberia Group airport network. There are destinations that, by law, prohibit the use of passengers' own pushchairs at the airport, so on these journeys, pushchairs will be delivered to the baggage reclaim belt at arrivals or, if you are travelling on a connecting flight, they will always be checked in at the final destination.
If you check it in as hold baggage, it will be collected with the rest of the baggage on the corresponding belts in the arrival lounges.
All passengers over 14 years of age must carry an ID card or passport.
On domestic flights, children under 14 are not obliged to carry it, but if they do, they will be able to prove it more easily.
On international flights (European and Third Countries), as there are no standardised regulations, all minors, accompanied or unaccompanied, and regardless of their age, must present their own document, ID card or passport (with authorisation formalised at a police station if they are travelling alone), as well as complying with the requirements of the country they are travelling to.
For more information: documentation for minors
The person responsible for the minor must personally hand him/her over to the airline and remain at the airport until the plane takes off.
Does your child have to travel alone? Don't worry, our Child Accompaniment Service guarantees their safety and well-being from the moment we pick them up at the airport of origin, during the journey and until they meet us at their destination. At all times we will accompany the child individually or in a small group with other children.
If he/she needs to make a connection between Iberia Group flights in Madrid, we will take care of him/her, dealing with any possible unforeseen circumstances and keeping you informed at all times. During the connection waiting time, your child will be looked after in our Children's Lounge where they can rest, enjoy games, children's films and free WIFI connection.
